

When I sent her the proofs, all she said was "They look a bit grainy - isn't there anything you can do about that?"
Gee, gimme a break! I've made these photos look better than they ever were! It's not as though they've perished terribly with age - they would have come out of the camera looking like this. They've never looked as good as I've made them here.
So I wrote back and explained that I'd already performed some quite aggressive noise reduction to counter the original film grain, but any further smoothing would begin to remove important detail such as eyes. I'm pleased to say that she was satisfied with this explanation.
